Here’s 7 questions With Dolapo Ojerinde.
1. Can you share some insights into your background and how it led you to your current position as COO at Oyasync?
I began as a junior software tester at a bank, moved to a fintech, where I continued testing. I knew I wanted to do something more operational rather than being confined to searching for bugs behind software(s). I filled other shoes like customer support and success, some form of business development. Seeking a more operational role, I joined Oyasync when they needed someone for operations. The rest they say is history.
2. Do clients often expect to interact with a male figure in your business meetings, and how do you navigate any preconceptions or biases they may have?
I believe times have changed, and women have proven their capabilities. Personally, I haven’t faced biases, but confidence and competence can help clear any preconceptions.
3. From your experience, do you perceive your work to be more challenging as a female, or do you believe it would be easier if you were a man?
No, challenges are job-specific, not gender-based. Physical strength may be a factor in some jobs that requires rigorous activities, but overall, it’s about skills and capabilities.
Promoting women inclusivity is essential for a diverse and balanced environment. Embracing the strengths, opinions and views of women contributes to a more vibrant and successful community orĀ workplace. Everyone benefits when there’s dual representation; fostering innovation and understanding. It also gives your organization a balanced image.

4.What are your thoughts on the issue of workplace harassment against women, and what strategies can you employ to address or combat it in your role?
It’s important to do your due diligence before joining a company. Organizations should have proper HR systems for reporting harassment. If an organization tolerates harassment, it should be brought to light, and legal actions should be taken; this will help mitigate the act. Also, it’s okay to walk out of an organization that doesn’t speak to your values.
5. How do you view the gender balance within the Nigerian tech industry, and what actions do you think could be taken to enhance it?
It’s honestly better than what it used to be; over time, women have been able to prove a point that they are just as capable as men. Organizations should recognize the value of diversity, understanding that both genders bring unique perspectives and benefits.
6. Do you subscribe to the stereotype that women are inherently soft-hearted?
Women can be stern when needed, overcoming the flawed perception. Awareness on stereotypes allows women to be more conscious of their emotions when it comes to work.
7. What words of encouragement would you offer to women who aspire to attain positions they rightfully deserve in their careers?
Be consistent, competent and confident. The world is your oyster.
